Crawl before the Leap.
|
|
Think you are all-jet-set to plunge into the idyllic playground of marriage?
I suggest you watch Revolutionary Road.
Naturally, as a lover, you'd want your staid view of the big L to overshadow the brouhaha of the failing marriage between the two leads.
But hey, truth is but a beating isn't it?
And such an eye-opener it is, to see what could possibly happen after a mere 7 or so years of marriage.
The movie, which was up for a number of oscar nominees this year, is classic in every sense.
Cast: Di Caprio, Winslet - Stellar.
Screenplay - Stellar
Music- Stellar
And Mendes' direction - Freaking Stellar.
Definitely made it to the personal, yearly chart of the top ten movies.
Random:
I have been told, my blog is on the verge of extinction.
That's quite true.
And my sincere apologies cos I have been really cooped up at work.
Anyway, am doing the official countdown for the biggest and much-awaited break in December.
I await with bated breath.
So long loved ones, till the next post.
xoxo

Forced Blindness
|
|
Sometimes that person is staring right in front of you, even after all this time.
But you choose to look away. For reasons so morbid.
And then you wake up.
Sweet dream or beautiful nightmare?
P.S- Look harder, look deeper.

Fart you
|
|
It was really one of those days, I get back from work at the usual unearthly hr, nestled with a bowl of lychees switching channels.
And then I stopped at STAR Movies and "Love and other disasters" was on.
For some strange reason, I nvr knew the existence of such a movie, and truly a shame.
It's cheezy, romantic but funny and would do you good on one of them wkday nights.
Here's an extract of the comfort level of r/s, and it sooo applies for me. As hilarious and revolting it is (i'm sure Joshua aka JO-HOR will concur), it is but true.
Pls catch it if you have the time. And I nvr knew Brittany Murphy looked that damn hot.
Therapist: Relationships are best measured by farting.
Peter Simon: Excuse me?
Therapist: The stages of a relationship can be defined by farting.
Stage one is the conspiracy of silence. This is a fantasy period where both parties pretend that they have no bodily waste. This illusion is very quickly shattered by that first shy, "Ooh, did you fart," followed by the sheepish admission of truth.
This heralds a period of deeper intimacy.
A period I like to call the "Fart Honeymoon", where both parties find each other's gas just the cutest thing in the world.
But, of course, no honeymoon can last forever.
And so we reach the critical fork in the fart.
Either the fart loses its power to amuse and embarrass thereby signifying true love, or else it begins to annoy and disgust, thereby symbolizing all that is blocked and rancid in the formerly beloved.
Do you see what I'm getting at?

Whore-roscope.
|

Am not one for adhering to horoscopes BUT THIS is freaking closest balls. Enjoy.
Versatility is a great keyword for this dual sign. Expressive and quick-witted, the Gemini presents two distinctive sides to his or her personality, and you can never be sure with which one you're going to come face-to-face. On one hand, the Gemini can be outgoing, flirtatious, communicative, and ready for fun, fun, fun. Yet when the other twin is present, you can find this air sign contemplative, serious, restless, and even indecisive. Both twins are able to adapt to life's circumstances well, making them wonderful people to know. Things are never boring when a Gemini is on the scene.
Friends and Family
Geminians are social and love spending time with friends and family. There will be times when this outgoing sign would want to go bungee jumping, and there will be times when sitting at home playing cards will suit them. Either way, friends are plentiful. Those who can match the Geminian intellect and love of variety will go the distance. One quality they seek out in others is communication. The Gemini loves to talk and gain insight from others. Without a clear flow of talk, the Gemini will lose interest pretty quick. Family is important, especially those of like mind. Friendship with siblings is quite common for the Geminian, and time spent together is cherished. Meeting responsibilities with family can pose a challenge at times, but almost always, the Geminian comes through.
Career and Money
The best-suited careers for a Gemini are those that stimulate the intellect. "I think" is the key phrase for this sign. Geminians are inventive and often literary. It's important that the work they commit themselves to doing is dynamic and challenging so boredom doesn't set in.
Careers as a teacher, debater, reporter, writer, preacher, or lawyer are all well-suited to this sign. Any platform that gives the Geminian room to talk is best! A sales profession is another excellent choice. You can expect to see many tools for communication around this sign, such as PDAs, laptops, and cell phones. Generating new ideas and problem solving are other areas where the Geminian will shine.
Deciding between practicality and pleasure can be a tough thing for a Gemini. While money is a necessary evil, most don't spend a lot of time worrying about where their next dollar is coming from. They don't put much thought into balancing their checkbooks, yet they manage to get by just fine. This is largely due to the flexibility Geminians have.
Love and Sex
Fun-loving and always up for an intellectual challenge, the Gemini is a spirited lover. The talk that precedes the interlude is just as important as the actual contact for this sign, and when it comes to wit, this sign holds nothing back. Flirtatious and curious, the Geminian will spend time with a lot of different lovers until they find one that can match their intellect and energy level. The Gemini needs to experience excitement, versatility, and stimulation to feel fully satisfied. Once the perfect match is found, though, the Geminian can settle into a lifestyle for two for the long haul.
GEMINI TIDBITS:

The color of choice for Gemini is green.

Gemini's lucky numbers are 3 and 7.

Likes
Music, magazines, books, music, blogs, chats with nearly anyone, short trips around town
Dislikes
Repetition and routine, being alone, being confined
House
Natural sign of the Third House. This house focuses on short trips, communication, conscious mind, brothers and sisters, and early education.
Famous Geminians
Hugh Laurie, Johnny Depp, Rudy Giuliani, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Helena Bonham Carter
Strength
Curiosity, ability to share ideas, adaptable, affectionate, kind
Weakness
Scattering energy in too many places at once, fickle in love, nervous, short attention span
Charismatic marks
Expressive eyes, quick, bright, often small-boned, refined features
Best environment
Any busy neighborhood, places where people gather to gossip, bookstores, museums
Sums me up ya'all! Thanks for the wishes and apologies for the lack of updates. Have been really bz manning Channel NewsAsia's new Lifestyle page.

It has been about a wk since my eyes was set on an alarmingly unbelievable MSN nick of a very close friend. Hard and Bold, it read:
"I DO".
Stop. Stare. Breathe. OMGGGGG. FREAKED OUT.
I turn 25 this year, and having bravely admitted that, I would like to eschew from the commonheld belief that I'm bracing myself for a quarter-life crisis.
Truth be told, I'm grateful I have a fantastic job in the current cold and uncertain economic climate. And I'm pretty focused on seeing fruition of the hard work I put in my job, well, in years to come, at the very least.
And when I’m talking leisure: There’s this warm fuzzy, comfortable feeling that settles in my stomach, when I'm devouring comfort food/ sipping martinis with the loved girlfriends. Everything's nice, everything's strangely settling.
BOOM, BANG, POW – The wake up call pounds.
Girlfriend gets proposed to and is on to the next phase of her life.
No more humming to Britney’s and our mantra of, Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman anymore.
I’m deliriously elated. Insanely, thoughts are rushing in my mind at the speed of lightning. In no particular order, they include:
1) OMG. She’s found THE ONE. It actually exists. THE ONE.
2) I so hafta shed at least 8 pounds for the big day! (I know. It’s not always about me. But…I’m a girl, what the heck.)
3) There’s gonna be a new addition to our wkday chill-sessions! Aunty Vim exclaims: “Come into my arms little one.”
Many other thoughts too.
But, strangely, I feel a little, a tad bit little, upset.
The mere thought of a certain void that would be nagging at me in months to come, seems to scare and irritate me.
The fact that she’s not ‘A Single Lady’ anymore and might have to compromise on our de-stress sessions makes my heart skip a beat, and as much as I wouldn’t want to admit it, it leaves me almost worried.
Yet, when I saw how her face glowed as she related the proposal =), these concerns of mine seemed pale, pathetic, like that of the rotten scum in the pond.
Here my close friend is, detailing one of the most memorable moments of her life and there I was thinking about how this would affect me.
Naïve. Selfish.
But then I say, these feelings were only evoked because I finally realise what a close friend you are to me. I wouldn’t have given a darn rat’s ass if it were someone else and it is really these kind of situations that makes one sieve out those friends that really matter to you, and those who are there just to fill your social void.
Frenemies since secondary school and we progressed to be amazing partners in Sec 4. HAHA. CB. Bartley freaking rules man.
I’m so glad to have grown up with you these years.
And believe you me, I admire your guts and bravado in battling the most trying challenges and always working towards what you believe in, steadfastly.
No verbal expression could illustrate how exultant I am for you as you take this next major step in your journey of life.
Congrats Rene. I pray you have a blessed, joyous life full of love, with Mr Han =)
xoxo

Obama-mania
|
|
Excerpts of Obama's breath-taking inaugural address:
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met."
"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.
"On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."
"But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."
"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."
"What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.
"The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end."
To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.
Nuff said. Absorb.

2009 beckons
|
|
In one of those contemplative moods, I questioned myself wad really is the big deal of the new year.
A yr older, yes.
And was telling the friends, that I'd be a quarter of a century. So really, what's my life all abt right now?
1)For starters, I've gotta kick-ass job, one I really love that pays me decent shit. Nice colleagues. And I just can't wait for the opportunities that would be presented in 2009.
2) Blessed I am with a great group of close friends that I surely don't take for granted and often seek refuge in, when need be. And well, they invite me with open arms everytime and anytime (U all had better). You all know who you are. Thank you once again, for being there yet another yr.
3) The family is great as always.
4) A passion I have for cooking and in particular baking. So I credit myself for getting my ass up on off days, whipping up new delights. It's so therapeutic, it actually calms my nerves. I made a mental note that I'd be more experimental in the kitchen in 2008, and I would like to think that I sorta achieved that. Well, I've still yet to prepare a 5-course meal for the ultimate critic. But then again I have my whole life ahead to prepare that for you.
5) Books-When you step into the corporate world, and especially in my vocation, all you delve in is really, news, news and More news. So the last thing you wanna hold on to when you get home is some reading material.
But No. Another deal I made with the self was that I would only read quality novels. It's my form of escapism and I'm so chuffed I derived ultimate pleasure in the 20-over books I grabbed this yr.
6) The travels. I usually don't go raving mad bout it and FB it immediately, but all of it was blissful. Oh and they weren't all villas, cos in the vimtionary, they were sanctuaries.
One might think, that's just a normal life. But, I like normal. And true contentment lies within yourself.
I've come across some, who think that shitloads of money/ having a big-breasted girl or a guy with a huge kukuchiaow/ having wealthy friends or partners/ living in a huge bungalow are the only valid reasons to make them happy. That's depressing. I pity them.
Of course if I strike the $2m toto draw, I'm not going to be a stupid cb and be sad and all. What I'm really trying to get at is, yes money makes the world go around, but never let that clamp your happiness. Cos ultimately, true happiness lies in your own very hands. Don't screw it up.
And as for superficiality, we just have to live with it in this day and age, but there's no necessity to conform. Be true to yourself.
I suddenly feel like Buddha.
Ok switch mode:, I can't wait for Armin Van Buuren. It's gonna be insane. Also, I'm so happy I ushered in the New Yr on a frrrreaking HIGH note (pun intended) with the loved ones =)
Kevin Tan, if you're reading this, I really do want to catch up with you soonish. Before Budget Day tho. U can imagine how crazy it wld get. Happy New Yr, from your one and only anjali. =).
Aniwei Happy New Yr to all of you who read my blog. Thanks for all your hate mail and positive feedback. I appreciate both, really. =)

Apologies for the lack of updates.
Ultra bzzzzzzzzz
But still fellow readers: Should you be blessed with time during this holiday season, read this -
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao - Junot Diaz
I'm not even going to pen a review cos Diaz's work is simply astounding. Also, I'm just glad-shit that Miramax acquired rights for the film adaptation.
Reasons you HAVE to read this:
1. Snapped up Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2008 (Hellllllo!)
2. National Book Critics Circle Award for Best Novel of 2007
3. The Anisfield-Wolf Award
4. 2008 Dayton Literary Peace Price for Fiction
5. The 2008 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award and the 2008 Massachusetts Book Prize for Best Fiction
6. Selected by Time and New York Magazine as the best novel of 2007.
7. St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Los Angeles Times, Village Voice, Christian Science Monitor, New Statesman, Washington Post and Publishers Weekly also placed the novel on their Best of 2007 lists
Praiseworthy accolades eh. Deserved that too.
P.S: Tulips&macarons being delivered to the workplace amid being bogged down with work is prolly the sweetest thing to end my year =) Thankewwwwwwwwww. love hugs kisses.

"My Blueberry Nights"
2007 film directed by Wong Kar-Wai, the first Chinese to win the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
And it should come as no wonder.
Such a masterpiece. Such brilliance. Such a wonderful piece of art I've yet to witness in many many years.
A love story it is, a woman (Norah Jones) does some soul-searching and surely takes her time to find the right soulmate for yourself. But believe you me, I don't simply dig any romantic movie so that explains why I'm not the typical fan of much-famed Notebook.
"My Blueberry Nights" is really the kind of movie that wants you to savour every second of not just the plot, but the powerful characters with depth, the implications of every scene which is craftfully shot, the backgrounds, the score, the colours and the deliciously succulent taste and sight of the plain-jane-looking blueberry pie.
Not the kind of movie you'll sit on your couch and repeatedly watch on DVD/HBO/STAR like the Bad Boys series, Dark Knight or Ghostbusters.
A one-time viewing is sufficient to leave a pleasant aftertaste and enjoy that fuzzy feeling of the big L.
Critics downed it. But then again, who are but these ppl to judge the brilliance of Any movie. Afterall, to each its own and do you really believe what I say sometimes?
This brings me to another point.
My sis once asked me:
"Vim, if your die...what would you miss most?"
In my reply
"I would regret not having read all the best works of fictional novels."
May I add....
"I would also regret not having witnessed all the best works of brilliant movies."
So...have you indulged in your pleasures recently? Everything's gloomy, but there's no stopping from keeping yourself happy - within your means that is.
That movie may have been released in 2007. I may have been tad bit late. But what the heck, it's better late than Never.
P.S- You're making me watch too many movies. You're a bad influence. I love it.love it...

I Like You Like Wine
|
|
So I was having a discussion with one of my guy friends and admitted a deep dark secret.
Actually, it ain't that dark.
Apparently, everybody has some kinda fetish when it comes to admiring someone. My Source: Some chick-flick mag. But Still.
So mine was, ripe old men, in their early forties or so.
And all I received was an "EEEEEWWWWW" response from my 25-smthg-yr-old friend.
BUT WHY??
They are mature, responsible, have gone thru the shit in the course of life and will be able to confront any situation with ease (which is a major turn-on)...
N there's this amazing aura some of them have. It's unexplainable, like it cld make you go weak in your knees and fumble. N feel stupid and childish. Watching them with those seasoned stubbles and swarve walk, makes you almost skip a beat.
In s'pore it rarely happens la, cos the majority of ah-peks don't have that kinda electrifying effect. But on that rare occasion when it does happen, I relish it.
So what kinda old, nope mature men am I talking abt?
George Clooney is the obvious, Pierce Brosnan...n i can't think right now and list then cos I have to run out...
BUT RIGHT NOW......THERE'S THIS MAN-MAN IM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH.
Rahm Emanuel - appointed chief of staff of the US administration.
A man with BRAINS, POWER, BRAINS, LOOKS, AND IS JUST GORGEOUS TO THE POWER OF INFINITY.
*Pics below for viewing pleasure. You'll know what I mean. This one seriously had me at hello.
P.S - Can i just say that I detest double standards and impressionable, young things who make use of people. Can't stand it. I pray to God they wake up their KNNCCB ideas. I pray.
Love to those near and dear,
Vimster
